RouteOverlay Privacy Policy

RouteOverlay Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 27, 2026

RouteOverlay is provided by Tianle Chen. It combines existing Apple Health workouts with photos and videos to create route overlays, organize workout media, review media locations and export routes. This policy explains how information is used when you use RouteOverlay and contact us for support.

Your workouts and media

RouteOverlay processes workout and media information on your device. It has no app account or developer-operated backend for uploading workouts or media. It does not include advertising, tracking or an analytics SDK. We do not sell your Health information or use it for advertising or marketing profiles.

With your permission, RouteOverlay reads existing Health workouts, recorded GPS routes, walking/running and cycling distance, active energy and heart rate when available. It uses this information to display workouts, match media by capture time, suggest locations, create maps and metrics, and export GPX files. It does not record workouts or write information to Health.

Photos access lets RouteOverlay read photos, videos, capture dates, locations and other media information needed for matching and editing. It can save exported copies, link or create albums, and change album membership or media locations after you review and confirm the changes. Album sync changes membership without deleting the original items from Photos. A location save changes the selected item’s location metadata in Photos; deleting RouteOverlay does not undo it.

Limited Photos access restricts the items available to the app. Full access is required for album comparison and sync. If an original is stored in iCloud Photos, Apple may download it to your device. You can control automatic original downloads in RouteOverlay Settings: Off, Wi-Fi only, or Always, including cellular. Manual downloads and cancellation are available when supported by the media flow.

Apple services and optional sharing

RouteOverlay uses Apple’s HealthKit, Photos, MapKit, geocoding and StoreKit services. Map and place-name requests may send coordinates and related requests to Apple. iCloud downloads and purchases also communicate with Apple. Apple’s services are subject to Apple’s privacy policy. RouteOverlay should not be treated as an entirely offline app.

When you export or share a photo, video or GPX file, it may contain precise routes, timestamps, locations, elevation, heart rate and other information you choose to include. Review the output before sharing it. Your chosen destination app or service handles the shared information under its own practices.

Optional handoffs to Dedup2 or OfflineClipper pass the selected Photos identifiers or album context to the app you choose. Those apps are not needed for core RouteOverlay features. RouteOverlay does not send your workouts or media to developer servers as part of these features.

Purchases

Apple processes monthly subscriptions and lifetime purchases. RouteOverlay reads verified purchase and subscription status to determine Pro access; we do not receive your payment-card details. Restore Purchases asks Apple to synchronize your purchases. Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account. Deleting RouteOverlay does not cancel an Apple subscription.

Information stored on your device

RouteOverlay stores local app information such as cached workouts, media references, export history, free workout unlocks, album links, editor preferences, language, download preferences and cached place names. This information supports the app’s features and remains until it is updated, cleared by an available app control or removed with the app’s local data. Device backup and restore may also be managed by your operating system and Apple settings.

You can clear the place-name cache in RouteOverlay Settings. To remove the app’s local data, delete the app rather than offloading it. This also removes local preferences and workout-unlock history; it does not delete original Health data, original Photos items, exported files or saved Photos edits. Manage those items separately in Health, Photos, Files or the destination where you saved them. Information already shared with another app or person is controlled separately.

Your choices and requests

You can revoke Health and Photos access through iOS/iPadOS Settings and Health, and change the Photos items available under limited access. Revocation prevents future access to the affected information; it does not automatically remove previously saved exports or undo Photos changes.

No RouteOverlay account exists to delete. We cannot remotely access or erase the Health/Photos libraries or app-local records on your device. For questions about your privacy choices or deletion of information you sent us directly, contact [email protected] or use http://tianle91.com.

Support messages and this website

If you contact us, we receive the contact information, message and attachments you choose to send. We use them to answer your request and troubleshoot the issue. Please avoid sending Health records, precise routes, private media, passwords, payment details or Apple Account credentials. If a sample is needed, use a non-sensitive example and remove identifying information.

Support messages may be handled by our email/support provider. We keep them only as needed to address the request and related follow-up, or to meet applicable legal obligations. You can contact us to request deletion of support information; any retention that is still required will be explained in our response.
